Without A Word
When strangers run into each other in the streets or in parties, they sometimes greet one another with a nod of the head or a quick hello. This is a good sign of recognition that they belong to one and the same society and share similarities – perhaps in race, culture, or social class. At times, though, all it takes to convey a sense of community is a smile. A pleasant smile flashed at a stranger will usually be returned, while scowls and frowns often dampen a mood.
